Senior Session | Arlington Heights

Springtime senior photoshoots are just the bomb. Especially if you’re lucky enough to photograph in that tiny window of time where everything is in bloom. Luckily for me and Alice, we did!

SPRINGTIME SENIOR SHOOT

A close friend of my mother-in-law wanted some senior photos of her daughter in the hometown where she spent her childhood – downtown Arlington Heights.

I had never been to downtown Arlington Heights before, but I’ve always loved the look and feel of downtown suburban areas, so I was excited to shoot there.

However, not having been there before means you need to make sure you’re prepared. Erik and I scouted the location ahead of time to get a feel for environment and take mental notes. We enjoyed some nice hot coffee while we waited for Alice and her mom to get there.

A VARIETY OF ENVIRONMENTS

The coolest aspect of the shoot aside from the fact that beautiful spring flowers were in bloom on the trees was the fact that downtown Arlington Heights had so much to offer. It has it all – gardens, parks, and fountains for a more natural look, and ornate buildings, stone walls, and hip storefronts for an urban feel. There was a ton of variety in Alice’s senior session.

My favorite place that we shot was in front of a Spanish restaurant. Their alleyway was filled with brightly colored tables and chairs, and lanterns of every size and color were draped from one building to the next, making a mesmerizing canopy. The colors played perfectly with Alice’s simple, bright orange dress.

WRAP UP

I think the hope of every photographer is that each session ends with a budding friendship. That doesn’t always happen, but in this case, it did. Both Erik and I very much enjoyed Alice’s and her mom’s company, and continue to keep in touch and see Alice in her first year of college!
